Westhampton Beach Learning Center Westhampton Beach Learning Center
The Westhampton Beach Learning Center is a center-based program providing learning experiences in self-contained classes for students ages 5 through 21 in groupings of six or twelve. The Center incorporates two strands; The Behavioral and the Developmental.

The Behavioral Strand provides specialized instruction for students with emotional problems and/or psychiatric disorders at the elementary and secondary levels leading to a high school or IEP diploma. Additionally, this strand provides transition activities leading to the world of work.

The Development Strand provides specialized instruction for students with autism, moderate, severe and profound mental retardation and/or orthopedic handicaps, physical deficits and other disorders which require close medical monitoring. The program operates at the elementary and secondary levels to maximize each student's skills to prepare him/her for transition to independent living, sheltered work environment, supported community employment or day treatment.

Exit Criteria the Behavioral Strand considers the individual's needs for more intensive services or less intensive services.

Placement opportunities for those students requiring more intensive services are with Stony Brook Inpatient Program, Sagamore Elementary Program at Terryville Learning Center, Sagamore Secondary Program at Nesaquake Learning Center, a residential psychiatric setting or a residential school.

For those students requiring less intensive services, placement options are in a district-based program or in a self-contained program in the home district and/or resource room and or related service.

Exit Criteria the Developmental Strand considers the individual's needs for more intensive services.

More intensive services include provisions for students in need of intensive medical supervision, those requiring intensive 24-hour medical setting and those requiring 24-hour custodial setting.
