The mission of the Person Centered project is to engage in a person-centered process that will enable students with developmental disabilities to make appropriate transitional choices pertinent to living, learning and working within their own communities and to provide opportunities for families of the students to interact regarding common issues and to research community resources and other opportunities related to the transition processes.
The Person Centered project goal is to train students in three Long Island school districts and three BOCES sites in the methodology and integration into existing transition plans of Persons Centered Training Planning (PCTP).
Through the innovative use of donated computers, parents will be trained in how to monitor the progress of their child's planning process and they can review and utilize alternative community resources, natural and formal supports.
Through computer-based conferencing and e-mail, parents will have more efficient access to information and the CSE process.
